A row-house typically has two narrow facades: one on the street, and one in the rear yard.  The configuration of this particular row house is unique.  On the front, a dogleg condition exists that allows sunlight to enter the east and south facades from morning through mid-day. For this complete renovation, we created a similar condition on the rear of the home to allow light to continue to filter in from mid-day through evening . To accomplish this, we added a one-story addition that projects into the rear yard with large windows on the south and west facades, and skylights on the roof. While the front of the home involved the preservation and rehabilitation of a 140 year old façade, on the rear of the home, the homeowners desired a  more modern aesthetic.
